The figure below - the Bodhisattva Green Tara - is found painted on monastery walls and carved on to rocks and cliffs in places like Sikkim, Bhutan, Tibet. People in those countries and elsewhere have made her the focus of their devotion and faith. Have called on her presence in moments of fear and need. And have meditated on her Enlightened qualities - compassionate action, readiness to step down into the world, deep wisdom, fearlessness.
I’ve done all of that too. But I wasn’t born in and don’t live in any of those places. I’m Scottish. And this particular figure is carved on a Scottish granite boulder.
I’m a Western Buddhist. I’m a woman. I’ve taken ordination vows. I’m not a nun. I wear robes occasionally, usually on ordination retreats. I’m a member of the Western Buddhist Order (WBO). I’m intending practising the Buddha’s teaching for the rest of my life.
This website is just about how I try to put the 2,500 year old teachings of the Buddha into practice in the modern 21st century West. I haven’t - and couldn’t - do it without help. That’s one reason why I pursued ordination into the sangha (spiritual fellowship) of the Western Buddhist Order. I live with women who are also practising the Buddha’s Teaching (Dharma) , most of whom are also Order Members. Together we live at and run Taraloka, a retreat centre in Shropshire, UK.
Behind this front page are other pages, photos, a blog, links, slideshows ….. 21st century technology helps carry the Dharma into the future. Don’t you just love it!!

Your site is a good way of staying connected to others, Kulaprabha - thank you for it. I’m hoping to visit Taraloka again in April and maybe August to drink in the Dharma amongst the sangha. I’m trying not to look forward to it too much!
May you be happy,
with love
